(More customer reviews)I like this video because each of the 10 basic pilates exercises are clearly demonstrated with variations for plus sized, injured, or otherwise physically challenged people. THESE EXERCISES ARE NOT EASY, but the video takes into account the special challenges that are unique to exercising a large sized body, and explains how to work the same muscle groups without injuring yourself or allowing the belly to get in the way. The instructions are clear and to the point, and it is the only "plus sized" exercise video that actually addresses the problem of a large belly that is a physical barrier to doing some of the standard pilates exercises. It is excellent in that regard. I also like that the person demonstrating the exercises is an older, plus sized woman. She is strong and does the positions correctly and helps me to know that what I am watching is possible for me. It is easier to understand the exercise if you can relate to the body that demonstrates the moves.
I gave it only three stars because it is not a complete workout. It is only a demo of the basic ten exercises that are modified for plus sized people. The exercises are great, but it only demonstrates each exercise a few times and only on one side of the body, so that you have to stop the DVD and repeat the exercise on the other side, or do the exact number of reps that you need. This would be OK, but the DVD itself is peculiar because it is difficult to stop it in order to do this repetition. And you cannot back up without going all the way back to the beginning, so the logistics are cumbersome and you end up spending more time fooling with the nuts and bolts of your DVD than you do actually exercising. This is extremely frustrating. Best to learn the exercise variations, and then apply them to a standard basic pilates DVD workout.
